Silda Spitzer has a bright political future. A Harvard Law grad, her mettle has been burnished under the klieg lights of public humiliation.
I think this is what Hillary Clinton must be referring to when she says she has passed the commander in chief threshold. Characteristics of having endured public humiliation, personal denial, blind loyalty, and personal ambition. It certainly isn’t Hillary’s foreign policy experience; she has very little of that. She did not open the doors to Macedonia; nor did she help forge peace in Northern Ireland, as she claims.
So what burnished her credentials, exactly?
She did endure many months of “standing by her man,” denying claims of his infidelity and choosing to ignore them. This politics of mortification and denial, from what I can tell, constitutes Clinton’s real claim to having passed the commander in chief threshold. If she could withstand that hotseat, perhaps, surely she could answer that 3am phone call, or, stare down Ahmadinejad.
Although Silda Spitzer is no Hillary Clinton, I think she might now have a claim on higher office.
